A very interesting token for balloon mail, operating in besieged Paris between September 19, 1870, and January 28, 1871.
The offered token with a denomination of 10 centimes allowed sending a letter by balloon No. 21 - Le Vauban, which took to the air on the 39th day of the siege of Paris - October 27, 1870 carrying 270kg of mail and landed safely near the village of Commercy in the department of Meuse.
On the obverse is the inscription BALLON/ DU SIÈGE/ DE PARIS, with RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE* in the rim. On the reverse LE VAUBAN balloon, in the rim the inscription PARTI DE LA GARE D'ORLÉANS CONDUIT PAR LE MARIN GUILLAUME.
A rarity, a great historical curiosity.
