A very rare variety without the denomination III and without the coat of arms of the Batory family. Obverse: Large bust of the king to the right and an inscription around STEPHA D G REX POL, Reverse: Eagle and Pogo of Lithuania, below an inscription in four lines GROS ARG TRIP REG POLONIAE and the date 1580. Due to frequent organizational changes, the Olkusz mint in 1580 minted many varieties of trojaks with different mintmarks. All of them are highly sought after and highly valued by collectors. The variety offered here is probably one of the last minted in 1580, and is much rarer than the distinctive coins with a small king's head. A decent circulating piece with a fine patina. Recommended.
