Medal from 1577 commemorating the Zagan physician Christopher Curtius.
On the obverse a half-figure of the doctor in a richly decorated robe, on the sides the date 15-77, in the rim an inscription: CHRISTOPHORVS CVRTIVS DOCTOR; on the reverse a richly decorated coat of arms shield, in the rim an inscription: SAGANENSIS SI-LE-SIVS MEDICINAE.
Medal illustrated in (F. u S.) "Münzen und medaillen der neueren zeit im auftrage des vereins für das museum schlesischer altertümer herausgegeben von F. Friedensburg und H.Seger" on plate 45 and this is the piece offered in this auction, and most likely the ONLY piece that has appeared on the market for over 100 years.
